Welcome to the Track Racing Page

Showing off! 2 British masters Championships Gold Medals

Its Brilliant! If there is one near where you live go down and have a look. Track riders are generally very friendly and will welcome you.If you are keen to have a go you will have little dificulty in getting a 2nd hand bike at a reasonable price. If you come to a Taster Session at the Velodrome in Manchester it may well be that I will be coaching the session.

Most Track riders compete in other disciplines, even those on the World Class programme. The Team and Individual Pursuit riders have a programme of Road Races both in the U.K. and abroad early in the year which follow after the traditional Long Steady Distance build up of fitness. Later they spend time on the track to prepare for the World Cup and Championships or Olympics. For the rest of us after getting a good basic level of fitness then the 'quality' of our training sessions becomes more important. Hopefully any rider who has ambition to succeed in Track Racing will have found themselves a Coach. The best way to begin to race is in a TrackLeague where you can learn to race 'safely' with riders of similar ability. Track races are comparatively short but can be more stressful than racing on the road. You must also learn to be more disciplined in the way you ride 'cowboys' are not welcome they can be a danger to themselves but more importantly to other riders. Some riders do brilliantly in mock races during training sessions but cannot cope with the mental stresses of more serious competition. This is one area where a Coach can be of help.
